DESIGN PORTFOLIO BY GIOVANNA SILVA

I’m a Brazilian, Colorado based product designer and amateur photographer. I believe that great design doesn’t just solve problems, it brings people together. Whether I'm working with textiles, digital tools, or furniture design,I strive to make design approachable, inclusive, and impactful.

muse

This piece was created with the goal to challenge the boundaries set between fashion and furniture design. Its form draws direct inspiration from the structural boning found in dresses; elements that sculpt the body, offering both support and an idealized silhouette. In the same way, the chair embraces the balance between containment and freedom, framing the body while allowing space for movement and expression.

The base is intentionally obscured by the seat, mirroring the use of mesh in fashion, where sheer layers add intrigue by partially concealing what lies beneath. This visual play adds depth and ambiguity, inviting a second look.

Rooted in both structure and softness, this piece celebrates the power of self-expression and serves as a blank canvas for the user to display their personal style.

lumea

Lumea is a pendant lamp that embraces the delicate interplay of light and material, transforming spaces with its organic form and warm illumination. Made from copper mesh, Lumea captures the raw elegance of metal while allowing light to diffuse softly, creating a dynamic glow.

The transparency of the copper mesh lends itself to a soft presence, as light filters through its overlays, casting delicate patterns that shift with perspective.

Lumea invites the user to engage with its subtle textures, shifting shadows, and the way it interacts with its surroundings. Whether placed in a cozy living space or a contemporary setting, this pendant lamp radiates a welcoming ambiance, fostering connection and serenity through thoughtful design.

upstitched

The Upstitched jean apron is a functional and sustainable piece, thoughtfully designed for artists, designers, and makers of all kinds. Made entirely from upcycled denim jeans sourced from a local thrift store, each apron carries a story of its own, with unique fades, textures, and stitching that celebrate the beauty of reuse.

Whether you’re painting, cooking, designing, or working in the wood shop, Upstitched balances durability with comfort. Reinforced pockets hold tools and essentials, while adjustable straps ensure a secure fit for a wide range of body types. The denim’s natural weight offers protection without restricting movement, making it an ideal companion for long hours of creative work.

o2 pack

The O2 Pack is a user-centered design solution created for individuals living with hypoxia who still seek adventure, connection with nature, and an active outdoor lifestyle. Hypoxia, which limits the body’s ability to absorb oxygen, often restricts users from participating fully in outdoor activities due to the bulkiness, stigma, or discomfort of traditional oxygen support systems. This project addresses those challenges with empathy, innovation, and functionality.

Rooted in extensive user research, the design process began by interviewing individuals with chronic respiratory conditions and their caregivers to understand their physical, emotional, and lifestyle needs. The result is a lightweight, durable, ergonomic oxygen pack that prioritizes comfort, discretion, and practicality in active settings from hiking trails, to trips in the mountains.

copenhagen jazz festival 2025

The branding for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2025 was made to reasonate with both Jazz enthusiasts and new audiences. The design focuses on introducing the concept of staying classy, while still having fun and enjoying the music without the influence of alcohol. This translates into the visual identity with the use of bold fonts, hand drawn elements, and vivid colors. Attention to proportions creates oder and alludes to the notion of staying classy, while the liveliness of the design elements aims to accent joyfulness.

This project was developed during a study abroad program in Copenhagen, where the studio environment encouraged a strong connection between cultural context and design thinking. Immersed in the city’s rich jazz history, clean design culture, and progressive social values, the project drew inspiration directly from the environment it was created in. The Danish emphasis on balance between simplicity and play, tradition and experimentation shaped the design decisions at every stage.
